Premlinary Storyboard

As a group we discussed the story for our preliminary thriller and then assigned roles so we could all individually get on with what we had to do. Jack was in charge of selecting and drawing the most important images from each scene. Dom then annotated the images to make the story easier to follow and to show their significance to the film.

Editing

As we got our filming done early, it gave us plenty of time to edit our production. We used iMovie HD to edit our production as it was an easy way to organise our clips and is generally good software to use. We used most of our lesson time to edit and also organised to edit during free lessons. We constructed our shots in storyboard order and then found out we had a problem with timing therefore we had to cut our clip down from 1:47 to the lowest possible amount of time which was 1:14, this meant having to remove a section of the dialogue. The section of dialogue that we removed when editing wasn't all that necessary, however it would of helped the audience understand the plot of our production. When adding the music to the start of our clip we used Garageband and imported it to iMovie HD. The music suited our clip very well as it built up the tension well. We made sure that the music wasn't too loud so that we could hear the dialogue. To make sure the music wasn't going to be too loud we lowered the volume of it right down so that we could here the dialogue.

Filming

All in all filming went very well as we all had a chance to film certain shots. Whilst filming we experimented with different camera angles with each shot. This gave us a variety of shots to use when editing our final piece. We had a vast variety of different shots that we could of used in the final production. We knew that it was key to have a variety of shots to work with. However, some of the shots that involved the dialogue were affected by bad lighting in our chosen room this lead to us having to re-film some of the shots on a different day. We all worked well as a group, this enabled us to film successfully and organise ourselves so that we could film at certain times.

Music

Our choice of music for our short film is - Hard to find: Lock stock bass.
It's a movie theme tune from Lock Stock And Two Smoking Barrels. The song is quite simple sounding but it's very effective for our film, with it's dark, dangerous and eerie qualities.

feedback on completed product

Cameron Williams-Hill:
"I thought the film was really good, the camera work looked good but the lighting needed work. I'm not sure wether it was white balance or lighting but the shots with dialogue needed work."

George Burtenshaw:
"I thought the video was really good, i like the music it goes well with the sequence of shots used. I thought the walls looked a bit different in some shots?"

Both these people don't do media but they managed to spot the certain aspects of our video that were wrong, for our main assessment the main issue we need to pay attention to is lighting and white balance.
